March 2010 UAPRN President's Message

Dear APRNs of Georgia,

It is an exciting time in the healthcare arena! No matter what side of the debate you land on we are on the threshold of new beginnings for Nurse Practitioners!

We are coming to that all important day in the legislative session, Cross Over Day!  Our bill is in committee and we are working with our lobbyist to hopefully move it in these last few days!

Our legislative agenda continues to be:

a) seeking removal of the restriction on schedule II drugs

b) seeking removal of the restriction on ordering diagnostic imaging studies

c) correction of the supervisory language regarding pronounciation of death

d) recognition by health insurance companies as primary care providers

e) the ability to sign all forms as a primary care provider

State leadership has established a regular meeting each month - the second Tuesday at 7:00 PM. Each month we will alternate between an in-person meeting and a conference call meeting. Julie Lupa, our new Secretary, will have the minutes of the meetings available for posting on the website within two weeks of the meeting.

As you can see we have a new website! It is exciting to be able to have more control of the site as well as a reduction in cost!  It is evolving and if you have any suggestions please let me know.  Over the next few weeks we will be learning how to navigate and use it to the best it can be! so please be patient with us!
